PAINTINGS
As a maker I find doing "nothing" very difficult. When my glassmaking was on pause during summer 2024, I decided to jump in the deep end and see whether I could find a connection with brushes and acrylic paints. I immensely enjoyed doing something only for myself and for enjoyment with absolutely no pressure from the outside.
I found the viscosity of paint similar to hot, molten glass. In addition
to "just" painting, I could push, even pull the medium depending
on its volume. This led me to think that rather than being boxed or
titled according to the materials I use, I like the idea of being
a "Colour Pusher" instead.
The motifs for my paintings have a strong relation to my works in glass. The shapes are often organic coil- and block-like elements with soft outlines like hot glass has, arranged similarly to my 3D sculptures.
Some themes for my first series of paintings include knots and vessels, both of which I have worked with in glass. When I paint, I feel like I'm simultaneously making glass. My shapes in paint are always ones that the glass material would effortlessly want to take.
